Revelation 21 & 22

What do you think of when you think of Heaven?
This devotional is going to walk us through what the Book of Revelation says Heaven is going to be like.

Day 1

Heaven.png

Read Revelation 21:1-8.  In this section we see The New Heaven and The New Earth joining in perfect unity. God is there to comfort each person as he dwells within all of man.

  • Why is it important to know the Old Heaven and Old earth have passed away?

  • How is the joining of the New Heaven and the New Earth described?

  • What do you expect will be some key differences between the Old and the New?

  • How does it make you feel that God dwells within man? How is that similar/different from now?Pray through these topics we talked about today.  There is an example at the end of the devotional.

Day 2

Read Revelation 21:9-21.  This New Heaven is also called New Jerusalem, and in this part of the chapter we are given some descriptions of what the city will look like.  It paints a beautiful picture of the city and how it was built.

  • Can you find any significance in the numbers given in the creation of New Jerusalem?

  • How is God’s power magnified within the city?

  • How is this different then how you imagined Heaven would be like?

Pray through these topics we talked about today.  There is an example at the end of the devotional.

Day 3

Read Revelation 21:22-27.  This section of chapter 21 describes Jesus in this city, New Jerusalem.  We see that Jesus is the true light and with that there is no darkness and there is no night.  Nothing unclean and no one unrighteous will ever enter into the city.

  • Why is there no temple in the city?

  • What is the Lamb’s book of life? Who is in it?

  • Living in heaven is an eternal thing. This passage in Revelation says no one unrighteous will ever enter into the city. How does that motivate you to share the love of Jesus with those around you?

Pray through these topics we talked about today.  There is an example at the end of the devotional.

Day 4

Read Revelation 22:1-5.  The beginning of Revelation 22 tells us about the river of life flowing from God’s throne throughout the city.  Along the river we see the tree of life, which can be compared to Genesis 2:9 when we last saw it in the Garden of Eden.  The tree of life heals the nations from all. With that being said, there is a complete absence of hurt, disease, physical affliction, mental affliction and all other brokenness.  Above all, we will be able to see the face of God.

  • Knowing there is a complete absence of all brokenness, how does that make you feel?

  • What does that make you think of?Can you make any more comparisons, or contrasts of what the New Heaven will be like from other passages in the Bible?

  • In Exodus 33:12-34:9, God does not allow Moses to see his face, but he does allow him to see his back.  In doing so, Moses falls to the ground in worship of God. In The New Heaven, we will be able to see the face of God.  How is that significant? How does that make you feel?

Pray through these topics we talked about today.  There is an example at the end of the devotional.

Day 5

Read Revelation 22:6-21.  In verse 7, Jesus promises that He is coming soon and in verse 12, Jesus is bringing his payment for all of those who have done His work.  Being in Heaven is a gift that all of us as Christians look toward in our time on earth.  God does not promise us a comfortable lifestyle or the life that society tells us we must have.  As a Christian, our sole purpose is to glorify God in all that we do, loving others and spreading the Gospel.  Through Faith in Christ’s death and resurrection, we receive eternal life in heaven.

After getting a clear vision of Heaven, we should want to spread the Gospel to all ends of the earth (Matthew 28:16-20).  In doing so, we have the opportunity to share with as many people as possible to get to choose to experience the eternal life that God meant for us to have.

We have the ability to share the Gospel with other students in our dorms, our classes, on campus, or even friends and family at home. With this in mind, what will you do this semester to share this Good News? I want to encourage you all to go and try to have a God-centered conversation today… and perhaps it will lead to a Gospel-sharing conversation!

Pray through these topics we talked about today.  There is an example at the end of the devotional.

Daily Prayer

God,

All salvation and glory and power belong to you. For your judgements are true and just.  I praise you and thank you for you who are and for working in me.  The thought of Heaven overwhelms me with joy! I feel completely humbled by your presence and encouraged to GO and share you and your love with all people in my life.  Thank you for who You are and everything You have done.

Amen.
